Mafia: The Old Country — Chapter 5 Collectibles Locations

TL;DR

  • Chapter 5 has 14 collectibles: 6 notes, 3 newspapers, 3 Trinacria symbols, 1 charm (Caricato) and the Mystery Fox.
  • Most items are found during scripted objectives—you can’t backtrack. Grab each collectible as you hit the area.
  • Key locations: vineyard building, villa compound (multiple floors), after Ludovici falls, and your San Celeste apartment with Cesare.
  • Missing the apartment picks forces a chapter restart. Move methodically, loot tables and fireplaces, and don’t rush cutscenes.

What You Need to Know First

Quick rundown before you go tearing through villas.

ItemEffectWhere to Get
Story ProgressMust be on Chapter 5 objectivesAutomatic when you reach Chapter 5
Notes (6)Completion stat; story contextScattered in vineyard, villa, and apartment
Newspapers (3)Lore + completionVineyard building, stone table near wooden door, garden stone bench
Trinacria Symbols (3)Completion stat; collectible setSmall left compound building, display table, kitchen counter in apartment
Charm: Caricato (1)Completion bonusTable between glass displays in villa
Mystery Fox (1)Rare collectible categoryDining room fireplace after Ludovici is incapacitated

Why this matters: most collectibles appear only during specific story moments—if you miss the apartment ones in San Celeste you’ll need to restart Chapter 5. That’s the sort of punishment the game likes to hand you when you sprint past a table.

Step-by-Step Guide

Follow this order and you won't be backtracking. I wrote this after losing progress twice, so take it like a favor.

Collectibles summary:

Item TypeCountQuick Location Notes
Notes6Vineyard, villa rooms, and San Celeste apartment
Newspapers3Vineyard upstairs, stone table near wooden door, garden bench
Trinacria Symbols3Small building interior, display table, kitchen counter in apartment

Mystery Fox1Behind Ludovici's fall, dining room fireplace
  1. Enter the vineyard building (first area of the chapter).

    • Immediately head right from the entrance. On the central table is Note 1/6: "Cleanup Initiative." Pick it up.
    • Climb the stairs, turn left toward the door. On a small table is Newspaper 1/3: "The Wave of Anarchy." Don’t skip the upstairs route—it's easy to run past.
  2. On the "Look for Tino" objective, check crates and wooden areas.

    • Near a wooden crate you’ll find Note 2/6: "Torrisi Logbook." It’s on the crates or nearby table — records about family business.
    • After the drive to meet Tino, examine a stone table near the wooden door entrance for Newspaper 2/3: "Races in Palermo." That one sits out in the open.
  3. Villa infiltration — this is where most collectibles cluster. Slow down and sweep each room.

    • Enter the small building on the compound's left side. On an interior table is Trinacria 1/3. It’s obvious if you check every table.
    • Enter the main villa. Right after the door, on the table directly ahead, is Note 3/6: "Opera Advertisement."
    • Move right from the main room to find Note 4/6: "Ludovici’s Collection." Between two glass display shelves, Trinacria 2/3 sits on a small decorative table and Caricato (Charm 1/1) is on the next table to the right.
    • Head to the garden left of the main stairs. On a stone bench is Newspaper 3/3: "Sicilian Parades." It’s near some plants, not hidden.
  4. After you incapacitate Ludovici (new objectives active):

    • Go to the dining room where he falls. Behind his body, approach the fireplace to grab the Mystery Fox. It’s tucked in the hearth area—check every inch because the game treats these as unique pickups.
  5. Travel to San Celeste with Cesare.

    • Enter your apartment. On the table beside the couch is Note 6/6: "Threatening Letter." On the kitchen counter, pick up Trinacria 3/3. These two are mandatory during that story beat—miss them and you have to restart the chapter.
  6. Checklist before finishing the chapter:

    • Confirm your inventory shows 6 notes, 3 newspapers, 3 Trinacria, 1 charm (Caricato), and Mystery Fox.
    • If any are missing, rewind to the closest prior save or reload the chapter. The apartment pieces will not reappear later.

Notes on pacing: Don’t sprint through cutscenes that place you in a room—collectibles often spawn as the objective updates. If a room looks fully looted but your count is short, reload last checkpoint and re-enter slowly.

Pro Tips

  • Move like you’re casing a place, not sprinting a sprint race. Most collectibles spawn when the objective updates; run in too fast and you’ll miss them.
  • Use cover and slow movement in the villa. Caricato and Trinacria 2/3 sit between display cases—check both sides of shelves and decorative tables.
  • After Ludovici falls, inspect the immediate area before interacting with other objectives. Mystery Fox is behind him near the fireplace and can be skipped if you rush.
  • Before leaving San Celeste, verify the inventory counts. The Threatening Letter and Trinacria 3/3 only appear during the apartment sequence—missing them = chapter restart.
  • If you're on completionist mode, toggle subtitles and listen for pickup cues. Visuals can be busy in rooms with many props; the audio ping helps.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Rushing the villa. Players often sprint through the main house and miss Trinacria 2/3 and Caricato between display shelves.
  • Skipping the apartment check in San Celeste. Those two collectibles won’t respawn and require restarting the chapter if missed.
  • Assuming newspapers are optional. They’re part of the 14 collectibles and are easy to leave on benches or tables while chasing enemies.
