Dispatch Episode 8 Hacking Puzzle Solutions

TL;DR

  • Tracker puzzles: bait antivirus, use build nodes to force loops, then grab power/frequency in the indicated vertical/horizontal spots.
  • Lockdown: memorize passcode, unlock bottom-left, return charges to original node on a strict cycle—order matters more than discovery.
  • Mindf**ker flips controls and reverses build inputs; practice the inversion in a safe area and follow the right-side illusion.
  • Rescues are time-sensitive: Flambae = refinery (speed), Sonar/Coupe = docks (high speed, low endurance), Waterboy/Phenomaman = moving train (max speed).
  • Common fails: rushing antivirus baiting, powering bulbs in discovery order, panicking during control inversion.

What You Need to Know First

Requirements and quick primer before you touch Episode 8's wiring and bait puzzles.

ItemEffectWhere to Get
Build NodesCreate temporary paths and antivirus bait trapsScattered per puzzle; unlock via local switches
Power Nodes / Bulb NodesCharge avatar to destroy security systems or power bulbsWithin each tracker/Lockdown map

Hero & mission requirements:

MissionPriorityRecommended Heroes
Flambae (Refinery)Critical / SpeedFast movement heroes; balanced endurance useful
Sonar/Coupe (Docks)High / SpeedGlass cannon speed heroes work, low endurance acceptable
Waterboy/Phenomaman (Moving Train)Maximum / SpeedMax speed heroes; minimal endurance acceptable

Notes:

  • You need good movement and at least one hero who can reliably bait antivirus without dying. Check your Dispatch Best Hero Builds and Dispatch Hero Tier List Ranked if you're unsure.
  • Episode 8 directly affects roster morale and availability later—fail a moving train rescue and heroes get permanent depression debuffs.

Step-by-Step Guide

Tracker Missions — general approach (applies to Flambae, Sonar/Coupe, Waterboy/Phenomaman)

  1. Scout the map fast. Identify build nodes, power nodes, and antivirus patrol paths before committing.
  2. Build a diversion: create an initial path that the antivirus will follow, then bait it into a controlled loop using a nearby build node.
  3. While antivirus is trapped or looping, access the power node and charge your avatar.
  4. Use the charged avatar to destroy nearby security systems or access locked chambers.
  5. Frequency phase: move methodically to detect the first frequency, then search directly vertical (Flambae case) or as indicated by the puzzle for the second. Don’t rush; frequency detection requires patience.

Flambae tracker specific

  1. Build the initial bridge but ignore the obvious top path.
  2. Focus on the build node near the antivirus guard and bait it into following your avatar in a loop.
  3. Create the loop pathway and access the power node while the antivirus is distracted.
  4. Charge and proceed to frequency matching: move through the right section until you detect the first signal, then search vertically for the second.

Sonar/Coupe tracker specific

  1. Start at the top-left to finish the initial objective.
  2. Create a direct path into the antivirus chamber and bait the guard outside its protective zone.
  3. Enter the vacated chamber, manipulate left-section controls, and match the frequency.

Waterboy/Phenomaman tracker specific

  1. Collect the first frequency in the top-right.
  2. Unlock the top build node to craft antivirus manipulation tools.
  3. Lead antivirus into a chase and trap it using the second build node with the correct input sequence.
  4. Final frequency lies in the top-left.

Lockdown — charge distribution (the part most people mess up)

  1. Memorize the passcode shown at start and unlock the bottom-left power node using that sequence.
  2. Charge your avatar at bottom-left and take that charge to the top bulb node.
  3. Use the top build node to create new pathways and recharge at the next node you hit.
  4. Return the charge to the original bottom-left node. This return trip is mandatory—don't skip it.
  5. Make a second trip from bottom-left to the top power node for the right bulb.
  6. Complete the double bulb node with a third charge cycle.
StepNode SequenceWhy it matters
1Bottom-left unlockSets initial charge and passcode context
2Top bulbOpens route and enables next recharge
3Return to bottom-leftRequired for proper charge routing; many fail here
4Final top-rightCompletes double-bulb requirement

Mindf**ker — inversion and deception

  1. Run the obvious path until it ends, then repeat to reveal hidden build nodes—this is the deception phase.
  2. When controls invert (left becomes right, and build inputs reverse), stop and practice the inverted movement in a safe alcove.
  3. Reverse your build-node input sequences (everything is mirrored) and trust the right-side visual path—the final pathway is an illusion; the correct route comes from the right.
  4. Proceed to the final build node and finish.

Rescue timing & notes

  • Flambae (Refinery): speed is king, endurance second.
  • Sonar/Coupe (Docks): high speed, low endurance acceptable.
  • Waterboy/Phenomaman (Moving Train): maximum speed; failing here causes permanent hero depression.

Common-sense checklist before each run:

  • One fast hero for pickups, one balanced for endurance, and a plan for baiting antivirus.
  • Never power bulbs based only on discovery order. Follow the charge return rules above.
  • Practice inverted controls on a throwaway run if you have to.

Pro Tips

  • Map the antivirus patrol silently: pause for five seconds to watch its loop before placing a single build node. Most failures start with placement on the first tick.
  • When you charge at a node, mentally label it (like "Home" and "Top"). Saying it out loud helps—you're not weird, the puzzle is. Return trips are usually mandatory.
  • Use one hero solely for bait and one for pickups. If your bait hero gets stuck, you lose tempo; if your pickup hero dies, you lose the rescue window.
  • In the Mindf**ker inversion, reverse your muscle memory: if you usually go left+build+left, input right+reverse-build+right. Practicing on a safe patch cuts the panic timer.
  • For moving train rescue, do a rehearsal run with low-risk choices. The map punishes mistakes harshly and the depression debuff is a real time-sink later.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Baiting too early: placing a build node without studying patrol timing and getting chased into dead ends.
  • Powering bulbs in discovery order instead of following the required return sequence—especially missing the return to bottom-left node.
  • Panicking during control inversion and mashing inputs instead of practicing mirrored movement for a minute.
