Echoes of the End Chapter 7 — All Collectibles & Locations

TL;DR

  • Chapter 7 has 9 collectibles: 6 journal entries, 1 health upgrade, 1 mana upgrade, and 1 special item—grab them all for upgrades and lore.
  • Key movement skills: wall-climbing, ziplines, and the water-spout puzzle solution. Missed timing = missed chests.
  • Important landmarks: broken bridge opening, crane area, floating puzzle, ruin stairs, cliffside platform after obtaining the Dagga.
  • Prioritize the Health upgrade after the water-spout puzzle and the Mana upgrade near the Dagga return; both are permanent and worth the detours.

What You Need to Know First

Requirements and quick notes before you hunt chests:

RequirementDetails
ChapterChapter 7 (Aema)
Total Collectibles9 (6 Journals, 1 Health Upgrade, 1 Mana Upgrade, 1 Special Item)
Movement SkillsWall-climbing, ziplines, precise dashing, platform timing
Key Story FlagMust have obtained the Dagga to access the Mana Upgrade area
CombatExpect Hyrnsolmur enemies and soldier encounters during exploration

Why this matters: some chests are behind platforming or require returning after story beats (Dagga). If your movement feels slippery, stop and practice the wall-climb and zipline transitions — they’re the difference between a clean run and backtracking.

Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these numbered steps in order; they mirror the natural path through Chapter 7 and minimize backtracking.

  1. Opening bridge — Wooden Mask journal

    • After the submerged broken bridge sequence, dash across and check the immediate right. There's a wooden ramp leading to a chest with the Wooden Mask journal. Don’t sprint past it; the chest sits on the ramp top.
  2. Crane area — Refugee's Notes (First Entry)

    • After you operate the crane, turn back and scale the wall directly behind the crane. Move right along the ledge to a chest containing the first Refugee's Notes entry. The platforming here is fiddly; take the climb slow.
  3. Two Hyrnsolmur fight — Refugee's Notes (Second Entry)

    • In the zone with two Hyrnsolmur enemies, clear or kite them, then check the small hut structure; the chest is in front of it. Combat first, loot second.
  4. Zipline descent — Refugee's Notes (Third Entry)

    • Use the zipline from the previous area to drop down. Go through the central door, reach the water section, then climb the left ledge once in the water. The chest waits at the top.
  5. Ruin main staircase — Aemic Edict journal

    • Enter the ruin and take the main staircase into the primary building. Check behind the left-side wall (players usually inspect the centre, not the left). The Aemic Edict journal is tucked there.
  6. Water-spout puzzle — Health Upgrade

    • After solving the water-spout puzzle, jump onto the wooden ledge to your left and go through the broken wall section. The health upgrade is behind it — one of only two stat upgrades in Chapter 7, so stop messing around and grab it.
  7. Floating puzzle area — Brass Head journal

    • The floating puzzle requires careful jumps. Head to the far left of the section; the Brass Head journal is in a chest there. If you fall, reset and slow your momentum.
  8. Return after Dagga — Mana Upgrade

    • Once you have the Dagga and return outside you’ll face soldiers. During or right after that combat, search for a wooden platform by the cliff edge. That’s the Mana upgrade — boosts magical capacity, and it’s permanent.
  9. Valley crossing — Aemic Helmet journal

    • In the climactic valley crossing that needs an orb, scan all ledges. One elevated ledge holds the Aemic Helmet journal. You’ll likely need the orb route cleared to reach it cleanly.

Timing and order notes: the guide follows the chapter path and assumes you’ll return once you have the Dagga. If you try to force the Mana upgrade before that story point, you’ll hit a wall (literally).

Pro Tips

  • If a chest looks out of reach, check for a zipline or a hidden wooden ramp; the designers love vertical detours.
  • During the crane area, take your time with wall-climb combos — missing the ledge means redoing combat encounters.
  • For the floating puzzle, treat momentum like a resource. Short hops are safer than long, over-committed dashes.
  • When fighting the two Hyrnsolmur, use environment to funnel them; two-on-one becomes manageable if you separate their engagement.
  • After you grab the Health upgrade, test your new HP ceiling on the next enemy pack before attempting tricky platforming.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Rushing past the opening bridge — the Wooden Mask journal is literally on the ramp to the right.
  • Trying the Mana upgrade before you obtain the Dagga; you’ll be blocked and waste time backtracking.
  • Ignoring the left-side wall in the ruin — Aemic Edict hides behind the obvious staircase area.
  • Using full sprint in the floating puzzle — too much momentum causes frequent falls and resets.
